May 4: Greek Nightlife with George

What a day Friday was. We started the day early by visiting George at Starbucks around 7am, and were on the bus to Mycenae. We stopped at the Corinth Canal on the way, and got a little more excited for bungee jumping. After about two hours of travel, we reached Epidavros. This is famous for a theater there, which seats around 12,000 people and is said (we actually witnessed this) that you can hear a penny drop from the center of the stage anywhere in the theater. It was huge, and awesome.

We then drove another 40 minutes to Mycenae. This place was awesome, we climbed up this little baby mountain and then down into a cavern. Tricky Aphrodite thought it was funny to send us down with flashlights and wait at the top for us. What she didn't tell us is how it is actually pitch black, the stone stairs are slippery and slick, the walls are wet, and it leads to a dead end. She laughed at us when we came up. That woman....

On the walk back, we had to climb back up and over the mountain. I felt bad because everyone was walking ahead and poor old Aphrodite (literally) was left behind. I waited for her and we walked together. She is such a sweet woman and it makes me sad because I think she is lonely and this group hasn't tried to bond with her. She then told me she was going to trick everyone. After hiking for so long, everyone was tired and starving. Aphro told me she was going to ask everyone if they wanted to do another mountain that would take 2 hours and see if they would say yes just because. So she did it, and you could see everyones disappointment. Everyone was whispering and groaning to each other, and she kept looking at me and chuckling. She may be old, but she's quite funny.

Anyways, we ate some traditional Moussaka and it was DELISH. Then we went home.

After naps and showers, we met up with George for dinner. He took us to a little taverna outside of our city town, and paid for this huge delicious dinner. The waiter, Peter (also known as Panyota) invited us out for drinks afterwards. So we waited for him to get done and followed him to a beer house. It was basically a hipster lounge, with rock music and other misc throwbacks from America (Gold digger, some Queen music, ect). Interesting mix. So it was me, Lauren, Britt, and Karlyn, then George (38), Peter the waiter (30) and another friend of theirs (34). Though it sounds awkward, which I thought it would be, they were such a fun group to go with. They were so friendly and so funny. We ended up staying out til 3, and even as we were leaving, people were just getting to the place.

Basically I had a great day.
