Today I went BUNGEE JUMPING!! Let me tell you, this was the most terrifying experience of my whole life. Let's start from the top. I woke up and made myself delicious eggs, bacon, and some fruit to encourage myself that even if I died...at least I had a good last meal. We (Brittany and 1) took a taxi to the bus station, where we got our tickets and waited about a half hour for our bus. There were complications and it was one of those times that I really wish I could understand the language. Luckily a nice man saw us having trouble and took care of it for us.
The bus ride went so quick, an hour felt like 10 minutes. All of a sudden we were there, it took maybe 2 minutes to fill out the paperwork and then we were getting sized up for our harnesses. It all happened so quick. 20 minutes after we arrived, we were harnessed up and on the bridge. One other guy jumped and he went first since he had done it before and knew what to do. Then it was my turn.
I got on the deck and got all strapped in when a boat turned down the canal. So we had to wait for this little baby sailboat to go all the way through, giving me plenty of time to panic and get worked up. Luckily for me, I wasn't freaked out at this point. The boat passed, and I was told to move to the edge. All of a sudden the man started counting down from 5, and I realized how quick this was going to happen. By 2 seconds left, I was in a complete panic but I knew I had to do it so at zero, I pushed off.
Now, I am not the most graceful so I ended up more like "bungee falling," but it was still wild. The first fall was the scariest thing I have ever encountered. Just free falling, you forget that you are attached to the bridge and it feels like you are just falling to your death. I tried not to scream but it happened anyways, and I think I even closed my eyes at the first part. It was ridiculous. After the cord finally caught, I was able to really look around and feel secure, but until then it was just like a complete panic in my mind. Though after realizing I was safe, I was able to feel the freedom and aliveness in me come out. Just falling and trusting in this inch wide cord to keep you safe was hard but so awesome. The adrenaline rush lasted for an hour.
On the ride home, however, it wore off and I was pulling one of those classic, fall asleep, head drops, wake up instantly, repeat, things.
Getting back I was pooped and sat around and did nothing all night, besides walk to Everest with Britt for some pizza.
What is so awesome for me is that bungee jumping is something I've always wanted to do that I never thought I'd get to do. In all of my classic myspace surveys at the question "what do you want to do before you die," I would always answer with bungee jumping. It is a weird feeling to get one of your goals in life complete when you really worked up to it for so long.
