You may be wondering, "Why did Katie not blog yesterday?" Or you may have not even noticed, which is the more likely option. Well yesterday was quite uneventful. This first week in Greece is orientation (as is the second week but we start classes then too). We are spending more time learning basics about Greece in the form of lectures and then exploring around the city.
I want to tell you about the delicious food. Yesterday in a break between lectures, a few of us found a small cafe. I ordered a cappuccino and this long hot pocket looking thing. All of this came to 3 Euro. The cappuccino came with this little baby cookie on top which was like heaven, and the drink itself was good too. As expected, the "sweet" version of the drink is a little more bitter than that you would find in the U.S.. The sandwich was absolutely delicious. I don't even like ham and cheese anything but this was ham and cheese and I have been craving it since the second I finished it. Also during our adventures I got a giant donut, probably 8 inches across. Today I ate an orange on my way to class and got the same cappuccino. This time for lunch, instead, we walked further down the street to a very small lunch spot that served fresh Souvlaki-pita. Holy crap. I eat the gyros that Messiah serves...and I feel that I need to tell everyone that those are in zero comparison to the real deal. This had chicken, tomato, french fries, onions, mustard, paprika and tzatziki sauce; all wrapped in a toasty warm pita. I will eat this every day for the rest of my life if I had a choice. Only 2 Euro.
Anyways, yesterday we did some shopping on one of the bigger store streets (featuring H&M, Mango, and such stores). Today we spent our free time after class at the travel agency trying to make our plans more concrete for trips. Easter break for me...will be in EGYPT. Yes, please. Today I also got to sit on the balcony and drink in some Athens sun while reading a book. It was very nice. Tonight will probably be an early night since tomorrow we will climb up Acropolis and see the great Parthenon. More later.
