Well, from your perspective it may seem like I have been bad at keeping up with blogging. Let me clarify. Things are great here but not a lot that I can blog about. Here are my recaps since my last post:
1. Saturday night we went out to a dinner and folk dancing event with the group. Of course, as things like this always happens, after only sitting there for 10 minutes maybe, the singer on stage pulls me up. No she does not look around, she looks directly at me and extends her hand. I said no a few times but she was too persistent. A bunch of the group got up too and we did this VERY simple dance for what seemed like 20 minutes. This song she was singing went on and on and on, and there would be points where it definitely sounded like it was going to end and she just kepttttt goingggg. It was great though. There were also four Greek dancers that went up every once and a while (2 of which were studly men). I was happier to go up and dance with them as I found them very attractive and it was more exciting than embarrassing. Overall, food gets the rating of maybe 3. Experience gets around an 8 or 9. A lot of laughs and smiles that night. Also highlight, seeing Tim get called on stage to learn how to belly dance with the professional belly dancer they had there. I am pretty sure I peed a little from laughing so hard.
2. Today we ventured to Delphi, a dreadful three hour drive outside of Athens and up a mountain. It was cold and rainy which put a damper on this experience, but still being there was cool. The main attraction there is that it was once known for the "Oracle of Delphi." She is said to have been "nested" over a hole in the ground that gave off fumes that basically made her high and say things that were out of the ordinary. These things she said were taken as prophecy and given to high powers when making decisions that effected all of Greece. Not only that, but average people would visit the oracle to get simple love advice or help with a decision. With that basic history lesson, it was up a huge mountain (which we had roads to but back in the day, the people basically had to climb to get there), so high that we were in the clouds at one point. Very cool.
3. Notice how I went from Saturday to Monday, skipping Sunday in my highlights. This may seem weird to you as you think, "wait...she skipped Easter.." Well let me tell you, yesterday was not Easter here. It was, though, the beginning of the week that they spend celebrating Easter. Little events take place here and there throughout the week but the main celebration would be this coming Sunday around midnight. It is a really cool tradition here though, so if you are interested then you should look into it.
Things I am looking forward to:
-Meteora trip (Thursday-Friday)
-Egypt trip (Saturday-Tuesday)
-Peloponnesus trip (Wednesday-Friday)
-BUNGEE JUMPING (hopefully that weekend)
I am happy, though a little bored with this city. Blessed, though, and this is more evident every day. I am learning a lot about how much I take for granted in my life and really feel I will have a greater appreciation for the small things when I return to the U.S. Kalinixta.
