I woke up and had a nice cup of coffee outside of the hostel. There is a little patio area outside and it is very quite and peaceful. We wanted to go to Red Beach today, one of the famous beaches of Santorini. Our hosts informed us that it would be cheaper and easier to just rent a car, rather than rely on public transportation, so we did. After getting a little lost, we finally parked at Red Beach, which was confusing because it just seemed like we were on a cliff. We climbed up and down a freakin mountain before we could see the beach, which was much smaller and a lot less red than we had expected. We gave it the benefit of the doubt though and laid out our towels. It was overcast but VERY hot, so it was not long before we wanted to get in the water. Though it was clear water, it was a little dirtier than what we had seen the day before. Also the sand/rocks, it felt, were coated with a layer of dust or dirt.
Eventually we set out to find the "white beach" of Santorini. After a long search, we gave in and stopped at a small beach we stumbled upon. This place was a GEM. Only about 8 other people on the beach, we spent the whole time in the water. We swam around, even to where we couldn't touch the bottom, and could STILL see the bottom clearly. Brittany and I swam out to a monster rock and tried to conquer it, only to get knocked down several times by the waves. We declared it a whale skull.
We were rolling in the water, tumbling, throwing rocks, ect. After goofing off with everyone and acting like children in the water, we all got on our towels and enjoyed the sun and some naps before heading back. After showering up, we headed to Thira, the capital of Santorini, for dinner. After some delicious food, we went for a walk around the town, and got beckoned into one of the bars. At first we each just ordered a drink and were standing in a circle talking and dancing a little. Then the bar gave us free shots, we made a friend, it got crowded, and the music got better. It ended up being an amazing night, we had so much fun dancing with each other and with our new friend Ely. Call me maybe came on, which Brittany and I LOVE and everyone else hates because we overplay it and do this ridiculous repetitive dance to it. What happened when it came on, you ask? EVERYONE did the dance and loved it. It was hilarious.
We got some gelato afterwards (I didn't, I had to pee so bad that I couldn't focus on anything other than not peeing my pants). We got in the car and drove back to Perissa, where we hung out for just a little bit before calling it a night, and agreeing not to set an alarm for the next morning.
